Magnify my ministry?! Isn’t that boasting?
Make them jealous?! Isn’t that manipulative, competitive, or something else not so good?
I’m a nice Christian. I can’t do that.
Well then, tell that to Paul, because that’s what he did.
And he put it in writing, “I magnify my ministry in order to make my race jealous and thereby save some of them.” (Romans 11:13b–14)
Possible Application: If you are a fan of simple, organic, house church style ministries you may have friends and relatives that raise their eyebrows at such unorthodox means of churching.
But, instead of cowering under their concern, confusion, or condemation, be at the ready to give a Yes-timony of how effective it has been in your life and in the lives of others. Avoid speaking against other styles of church. Just “magnify” why you like simple church style and ministry.
When people get “jealous” they may scorn, ridicule, and set their eyesbrows even higher but inside they may be wishing they could have church the way you have it.
Recognize this “jealousy” possiblity and don’t blink. Smile big and know what you know.
Your unruffled confidence is worth gold.
Bonus Project: sit down and write those positive features and benefits down so they will be crystal clear for you under any interogation and balance this with Mark 13:11 — “And when they bring you to trial and deliver you over, do not be anxious beforehand what you are to say, but say whatever is given you in that hour, for it is not you who speak, but the Holy Spirit.”
